In a press release by PG Economics, biotech crops on its sixteenth year of commercialization has delivered an unparalleled level of farm income benefits to farmers and provided considerable environmental benefits to countries planting biotech crops. Close to $100 billion global farm income has been gained during the 16 period due to yield gains from lower pest and weed pressure and improved genetics, and reduced cost of production.

GM crops to cut hunger, poverty

Viet Nam has the potential to develop crop biotechnology to help ensure food security, says Nguyen Van Tuat, deputy director of Viet Nam Academy for Agricultural Sciences.
Speaking at a workshop on global outlook for genetically modified (GM) crops last Friday in Ha Noi, Tuat said that in the last few years, the country's field trials for GM crops including maize, soybean and cotton had shown promising results.

Rice institute transfers new techniques to farmers

As many as 132 new rice varieties, of which 45 receive national recognition, have been transferred to farmers nationwide by the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta Rice Research Institute, contributing to improving cultivation practice and local farmers’ income.
